ECO2 framework assessment of limestone powder concrete slabs and columns

Producing limestone powder requires comparably far less energy than the production of ordinary Portland cement (OPC), making it a promising sustainable solution for partial replacement OPC in concrete. Lower could be translated into lower environmental impact and cost, which are two pillars sustainability resulting However, question remains if replacing with larger percentages would compromise performance concrete to level that surpasses economic gains. In order assess collective these concretes, performance-based multi-criteria decision analysis framework, ECO2, is used. For purpose, 26 experimentally verified, mixtures without were evaluated through potential application types reinforced (RC) structural elements (slabs columns) under identical condition. The main results research showed clear advantage reduced content, but relatively higher superplasticizer amount some cases affect final mix. case RC slabs, best ECO2 score was obtained containing powder. Mixtures 200–250 kg per unit volume had highest all considered criteria. second case, due nature requirements columns, crucial influence compressive strength clear. have shown approximately equal concretes vertical such as columns. seems certain improvement design high content make competitive fields.
